Day9
We were up around 7:30am today wanting to get an early start on our trip to St. John. I had made a reservation last evening for a campground just north of St. John and the RV Life app showed about 5 1/2 hours to run the 230 miles. After all the years of running the Interstates in the US, I have a hard time thinking it will take us that long. But, it turned out to be a conservative estimate even considering we spent about an hour at Walmart grocery shopping and 1/2 hour for lunch just over the border in New Brunswick.
We left the Bar Harbor Campground at 9am and took US 1 and 182 across southern Maine. Just before the Canadian border we stopped at an Irving Gas Station and it was much more open and easier to handle the trailer through the pumps. No problem crossing the boarder into Canada although there was about a 1/2 hour wait in line.
Laura took this picture as we cruised through St. John.
Shortly after St. John, we left Hwy 1 (which was an awesome road) and turned southeast down 111 to our campground. Around 4pm we arrived at the Century Farm Family Campground in St. Martins. We had planned on boondocking tonight (staying at a Walmart or other free place) until I saw this campground on RV Life. It is right on the Bay of Fundy and the beach is right in front of our trailer. If you click on this picture and zoom in a little, you can see the ocean right in front of our campsite. Awesome!
It didn't take Laura long to head to the beach and look for stuff. Unfortunately, the tide was right at high - in this area that meant 31.5 FEET ABOVE LOW WATER. Holy Crap!
Later in the evening, after dinner, we walked back to the beach and the tide was down about 8 feet with 22 still to go out. The shoreline from high tide was above my head and I tried something I thought would be interesting. I stood with my feet at the edge of the waves and watched the water recede. It only took about 10 minutes for the waterline to be 3-4 feet away from me on the beach. Wow! This water was really leaving!
Back at the camper and we decided to have a cocktail and munchies while watching the ocean. A short time later we watched our neighbors across the road playing corn-hole. They invited us over and we had fun for quite a while playing the bean-bag-toss game with them. They kicked our butts.
Back to the trailer we broke in Tom and Denise's new grill with burgers for dinner.
Here is a nice sunset picture I took from the beach looking over the campground.
It was a pretty fun day and I was glad to get away from the crowds at Acadia. It was a beautiful place but TOO MANY PEOPLE for me.
